Course Overview
Behind every great safari stands a lodge run to perfection. This programme trains students in professional housekeeping, guest service and accommodation operations for the eco-tourism industry — from small bed-and-breakfasts to premium safari lodges — taught hands-on, to the standard the industry actually demands.
This is a registered national qualification. It professionalises the accommodation industry, leads on to the Accommodation Services diploma, and provides articulation with the Gaming, Travel and wider Tourism industries.

How We Teach It — Four Practical Pillars
- Professional Room Presentation & Housekeeping
Lodge-grade linen work and bed presentation; styling of throws, local textiles and cushions; and correct care of the surfaces lodges are actually made of — canvas, thatch, stone, timber and concrete. - Turndown Service & Guest Comfort
The late-afternoon room transformation: lighting, climate and insect netting ready before the guest returns; personalised welcome touches; and the discipline of detail — the small, invisible things done right that separate a good lodge from a great one. - Indoor–Outdoor Service & Deck Management
Safari hospitality does not stop at the sliding door: managing private decks and outdoor guest spaces — furniture, sunrise coffee service, binoculars in their place — together with the safety protocols that open-air hospitality in a Big Five environment demands. - Responsible Hospitality & Sustainability
Guests expect comfort; the environment demands restraint. Students learn to deliver both: locally sourced amenities, responsible water and energy use, and waste practices that meet the standards of modern eco-lodges.
Practical training takes place in real guest accommodation on the college’s working conservation reserve in Bandelierkop, Limpopo.
