Who we are
Limpopo Wildlife Eco College is a wildlife training college based in Bandelierkop, Limpopo, South Africa. Our website address is https://limpopowildlifeecocollege.com. We are the “responsible party” for personal information collected through this website, as defined by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Our Information Officer is Zeriah Wessels, who can be reached through the Contact page on this website.
What we collect and why
Contact enquiries. When you write to us through our contact form, we collect your name, email address and message so that we can respond to you.
Student accounts. When you register for one of our online courses, we collect your name, email address and username so that we can provide the course, track your progress, and issue your certificate.
Course activity. For enrolled students we record enrolment dates, lesson completion, quiz results and certificates issued. For accredited training, assessment records are part of our quality-assurance obligations.
Certificates. A certificate shows your name, the course title and the completion date, and carries a unique certificate ID. Certificates can be verified on this website by anyone who has the certificate ID — this is what makes them meaningful to employers.
Comments. If you comment on our blog, we collect the name and email address you supply, and your IP address as part of spam protection.
Cookies. Like almost every website, we use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and make the site faster. Login cookies are removed when you log out.
Analytics. We use Google’s analytics tools to understand how visitors use our site — which pages are read and how people find us. This information is statistical and is not used to identify you personally.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do not display third-party advertising. We only send you email about your own enquiries, your courses and your certificates.
Who we share your data with
We use trusted service providers to run this website: an email delivery service to send transactional messages (enquiry replies, enrolment confirmations, certificates), Google for analytics, and secure backup storage. Each provider processes data only as needed to provide its service. Beyond this, we share personal information only where the law or our accreditation obligations require it.
How long we keep your data
Contact enquiries are kept for as long as needed to handle your matter. Student records, assessment results and certificate registers are retained for as long as our accreditation and quality-assurance obligations require. Comments and their metadata are retained so that follow-up comments can be recognised.
Your rights under POPIA
You may ask us at any time: what personal information we hold about you; to correct information that is wrong; or to delete your information, unless we are required to keep it for legal, accreditation or record-keeping purposes. Contact our Information Officer through the Contact page to exercise any of these rights. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (https://inforegulator.org.za).
Children
Our courses are intended for adult learners. Where a prospective student is under 18, we require the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.
If our practices change — for example, when we introduce paid online courses — this policy will be updated, and the date at the top revised.
Student Field Logbook app
Limpopo Wildlife Eco College provides a digital Field Logbook (hosted at lwec123.github.io) in which enrolled students record their practical training: field days, trail hours and dangerous-game encounters, forming the student’s Portfolio of Evidence.
What we collect. When a student creates a logbook account we collect their name, email address and chosen programme, and — where the student provides them — a student number and ID number (used only on the printed Portfolio of Evidence cover). Each logbook entry may contain dates, hours, activity descriptions, the supervising mentor’s name and signature, and — only when the student taps the “Capture GPS” button — the GPS location of that entry.
Where it is stored. Logbook data is stored on Google’s Firebase/Cloud Firestore platform in its Johannesburg (South Africa) data region, protected by access rules and encrypted in transit.
Who can see it. A student’s logbook is visible only to that student and to the College’s appointed training staff (mentors, assessors and moderators), who use it to supervise training, sign off entries and compile the Portfolio of Evidence. We do not sell or share logbook data with third parties.
How long we keep it. Logbook records form part of the student’s training file and are retained as required for assessment, moderation and accreditation purposes.
Your rights. Students may view their own records in the app at any time, and may contact us at limpopowt@gmail.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information, subject to our record-keeping obligations as an accredited training provider.
Our separate field tools (the Wildlife Sighting System and Wildlife Photo Tutor) store their data only on the user’s own device and collect no personal information on our servers.
